Painting Lion Ear
Testing out my new Panasonic Lumix DMC-S1’s video recording feature. There is a chunk of video missing because the camera only records in 2gb segments and I didn’t know it stopped recording. 24 minutes of lion ear painting condensed into about 30 seconds.
For The Lion In All Of Us
I had some loose footage from last year that was never made into a video, so I started putting them together, and it ended up as this lion dance training montage!
Dedicated to the San Francisco Wushu Team & Lion Dance Troupe.
Special thanks to my fellow lion dancers whom I have learned from, trained with, and danced with.

Lion Dance Practice – Stack Crazy! (07/17/2010)
We went stack crazy! 😀
Trying out a bunch of different combos including some new things that we’ve just started practicing like high knee stack, left sided single leg stack, and 180 turns to stacks. Fun, fun, fun! 😛

Lion Dance Practice – Bridges 2 (2010-06-12)
Bridges revisited. We tried some fun stuff on these stepping platforms. This is a very condensed and sped up cut of this footage so that you won’t get too bored.
I think one of the most difficult and important things to do in lion dancing is creativity in portraying the lion. To make the movements and gestures lion-like as well as give the lion a personality through movement. Especially if you’re not practicing with the lion head, you have to use your imagination.

Lion Dance Practice – One-sided Shoulder Sit Stack (05/15/2010)
Just started doing these one-sided shoulder sit stacks with Nicholas Fong at San Francisco Wushu.
It feels like lifting a big bag of potatoes onto your shoulders. If you’re wondering, Nicholas weighs around 120lbs. Need more practice and tweaking. Haven’t even tried them on the left side yet.
Lion Dance Practice – Donkey Kicks (03/27/2010)
A few clips from lion dance practice with Nicholas Fong and Ryan Au at San Francisco Wushu on March 27, 2010.
Trying some donkey kicks out of a stack.
Lion Dance Practice – Jump Split Kicks (03/20/2010)
Lifting Nicholas for a few lion dance stacks and jumps. I felt pretty good extension while lifting, look at the air Nicholas gets on those split kicks! 🙂

Lion Dance Practice (03/13/2010) – Full Lion Costume
Lion Dance practice with Ryan Au at San Francisco Wushu on March 13, 2010.
Lot of footage during this practice, a lot of it had to be cut to make the video shorter. Ryan brought the full lion with pants, so we tried to practice a bit of everything. Ryan’s lion is pretty nice looking! 😀
Lion Dance Practice (03/06/2010)
Lion Dance practice with Ryan Au at San Francisco Wushu on March 6, 2010.
Just a couple split kick and inside kick attempts after a tiring workout. We were exhausted. Could be higher and better.
Lion Dance Practice – Bridges (01/08/2010)
Lion dance practice with Ryan Au at San Francisco Wushu on January 8, 2010.
Messing around with some make-shift bridges for the first time.
Fun stuff, we need to work this stuff more!
Lion Dance Practice (01/08/2010)

We’re getting Nicholas into some stacking!
Lion Dance Practice (12/19/2009)
Lion Dance practice with Ryan Au at San Francisco Wushu on December 19, 2009.
Ryan wanted to try out some curious, slow, circular observation gestures. I like the way it looks, should build upon that with other things to make the lion’s object interaction better.
Then we tried to practice side rolls for the lion. Need more work on that too. Also some mediocre attempts at the donkey kick 😛
Lion Dance Practice (11/28/2009)
Lion Dance practice with Ryan Au at San Francisco Wushu on November 28, 2009.
I haven’t practiced with the lion head and body in months! Everything is different when you’re under the head because you can’t use your arms as much to jump. That, and this was just after Thanksgiving so we’re also lifting up a bunch of turkey when we try to stack. 😛
Need a lot of work on the lion gestures and movements! Enjoy the atrocity! 😀
10/31/2009 Lion Dance Practice
Just some lion dance stacking practice with Ryan Au at San Francisco Wushu. We need more practice and more strength! 🙂
